The recent American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009/2010 grants First Time Homebuyers in the U.S. up to $8,000 to buy a home in 2010.
The money is a free gift and never has to be paid back... provided you live in your new home for 3 years.
Your $8,000 can be used for single family detached homes, mobile homes and duplexes - as long as you live in one of the units as a primary residence.
If you qualify - you get 10% of the value of whatever home you purchase, up to a maximum of $8,000.
In order to claim your $8,000 - you must:
- Have not owned a home in the last 3 years.
- Make less than $75,000 as a single tax filer - or less than $150,000 as a couple.
- Buy a home before April 30th, 2010.
